On the last day of October, PhDr. Blažena Przybylová, Director of the Ostrava City Archives, tragically died in a car accident. Throughout the year, she played a major role in preparations of the celebrations of the 750th anniversary of the first written mention of Ostrava and she co-authored two books that were published on this occasion.
Blažena Przybylová was born in Ostrava on 7 March 1952. She graduated from Matiční Gymnasium in Ostrava in 1970. In 1975, she graduated from the then Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Brno, where she studied archival science. After her studies she started to work at the district archives in Blansko, and in 1977 she became head of the company archives in Iron and Wire Works Bohumín, where she worked until 1992. She started to work as archivist in the Ostrava City Archives in 1993, and two years later she was promoted to Director.
‘We have suddenly lost a top specialist in archival science, author and co-author of many books, publications and exhibitions, great director and, most of all, great person who was able to get fired up about a cause and turn her dreams and visions into reality. She loved Ostrava, and this year she threw herself into preparations and realization of the celebrations of the 750th anniversary of the first written mention of the city. I liked her and admired her very much. I extend my deepest sympathy to the bereaved, family members and friends. She will be missed but never forgotten,’ said Mayor of Ostrava Tomáš Macura.
