‘HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, OSTRAVA!’ is a ceremonial ending of the celebrations of the 750th anniversary of Ostrava’s history, during which the Christmas tree and decorations in the Prokeš Square will be lit up. This final part of the year-round event will take place on 29 November.
The rich prepared programme will begin at 3 pm and will last until 5:45 pm. We will see Dance Ensemble Hlubinka, Calata – a performance of stylized musicians, festive arrangements of medieval songs, Silesian Brass Quintet and much more. The results of ‘Šumná Ostrava’ (Pretty Ostrava), an art contest of Ostrava’s primary and secondary schools, will be announced and winners will be awarded prizes. There will also be Baby Jesus’ Children Mail with Christmas wishes writing, baking presentations and giveaways of Christmas wishes from handmade paper with a commemorative seal of the 750th anniversary of the city.
Mayor Tomáš Macura together with Ostrava bard Jaromír Nohavica will seal the Memory Chest containing messages from Ostrava people, which will be opened again in 2067, and the programme will end at 6 pm with fireworks and lighting of the Christmas tree and decorations.
