History in Ostrava streets

History in Ostrava streets

Since Wednesday, 28 June, exhibition panels are installed in the streets of the centre of Ostrava and in the railway stations, mapping the history of the locations where the panels are located. The installation contributes as another interesting event to the diverse celebrations of the 750th anniversary of the first written mention of Moravian Ostrava.

In addition to Masaryk and Beneš Square, the panels are also located in Husův sad (Hus Park) or in the largest Ostrava railway stations. Historic photographs with short descriptions familiarize visitors with the history of the particular places. People waiting for a train or arriving in Ostrava will learn about the history of Svinov and the main railway station, but also about the development of the towns of Svinov and Přívoz. Important sites are listed in the centre such as the surroundings of Dr. E. Beneš Square with the former building of the town savings bank, the Melantrich publishing house or the famous Elektra ‘Palace’. The panels located at Masaryk Square remember the history of the old town hall or tram transport. Aleš Square in Poruba and the city district Hrabůvka will also enjoy their panels.

The exhibition is organized by the city of Ostrava and will last until the end of September.
