The Petr Bezruč Theatre Company will join the celebrations of the 750th anniversary of the first written mention of Ostrava with a multi-genre project called ‘Poet Petr Bezruč presents the history of Ostrava in a short and witty way’ focusing on high school students.
Actors of the Petr Bezruč Theatre have already visited several high schools in Ostrava and surrounding towns and have enacted a special theatre piece there. In September they also participated on an event in the Fiducia Theatre with a musicalized version of poem Maryčka Magdonová, and they introduced the poet at a grammar school in Havířov.
The introduction of Petr Bezruč’s life and work is accompanied by modern music, whose lyrics reflect poet’s best-known ballads. Part of the programme is a humorous trivia quiz with questions based on Ostrava’s history, specifics and unique features. Actors will also act out the prepared pieces at popular cultural events, particularly during Ostrava Literature Night and traditional Museum Night.
This project is prepared by Janka Ryšánek Schmiedtová, director and artistic director of the Petr Bezruč Theatre, with actors from the theatre group divided into three action groups. The original music, based on the texts of famous Bezruč’s ballads, was composed by Michal Sedláček.
Project Poet Petr Bezruč presents the history of Ostrava in a short and witty way is financially supported by the statutory city of Ostrava.
