The mounted police meeting celebrated its ‘little’ jubilee

On Saturday, 26 August, at Comenius Park in Ostrava took place the jubilee 20th International Meeting of Mounted Police. This year’s programme was dedicated to the 750th anniversary of the first written mention of Ostrava and the 25th anniversary of the Ostrava Municipal Police.

This year’s event, which took place under the auspices of the Mayor of the City of Ostrava Tomáš Macura, was attended by representatives of the Prague Municipal Police, Zlín Police Department and Brno Police Department as well as by mounted police officers from Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. Police officers from the Ostrava Municipal Police also participated, they almost completely dominated the competition and matched the success from previous years.

In three competitions in show jumping and match race, officers from Ostrava twice won and scored a total of six podium finishes. Based on the results, Daniel Orsag from Ostrava became the champion of the Czech municipal police departments.

The jubilee 20th International Meeting of Mounted Police was attended by seven thousand visitors. In addition to the competitions, the audience saw a demonstration of the art of riding a horse in a head collar by actor Václav Vydra as well as a four-horse team of Kladrubers from national stud farm Kladruby nad Labem and their skill in harness. Those interested could try out their accuracy at a laser shooting range or see police officer’s equipment and weaponry. For children, there were prepared two bouncing castles, games, quizzes and various competitions. The evening program consisted of two concerts – of band Legendy se vrací and of singer Heidi Janků.
